Reports Can Be Fun...

Writing has never been something Alex has enjoyed. In fact it's quite the opposite. He quite dislikes it. You can imagine his dour expression when he got in the car after school in Fort Worth, and told me he had to do a paper for his science class. He was not a happy camper. Fast forward nine weeks and we have this...
Alex's final report.

His teacher had the children choose an animal to research, and then write a fictional story with the researched facts woven throughout the story. Then each student was able to put their report in their own bound book. I typed Alex's story for him, but he did everything else, including illustrations (some photos, some coloring pages, some pencil drawings) and page layout. When he stood back to admire his finished product and all the hard work he'd put in to it, he was so thrilled. It made me giddy seeing his delight. This past Thursday he got to read his story to the class and then all of his classmates signed the "About the Author" page with his photo on it. This was such an excellent way to have kiddos do a report, while still allowing creativity. And getting the simple blank bound books for them to put their report in to a book presentation was the cherry on top. :)

So proud of my little author!
