Saturday evening Alex participated in his first golf tournament at Z-Boaz. It was a small group with only seven kids playing, all ranging in age from 5 to 8. I was surprised at the diversity of experience among those in the group. There were several kids with a lot of golf experience under their belts, but also a couple at a similar level to my munchkin. Alex had the time of his life though. He loved just being out there. He never seemed to be aware of how many strokes he was taking to get to the hole - he just played - no cracking under pressure for this little kid! I love the simplicity and contentment of his little spirit that way. As a parent I was transported back to when I was a kid, and very competitive - I was very aware of performance and if I was doing well or not. For me this was an exercise in learning to simply watch, and encourage. I'm very proud of him though. It'll be a fun time watching him as he improves and grows in the sport (if that is his desire) in the years to come.

Waiting to begin!
Dads exchanged score cards and acted as caddies for the kiddos. The golfing for this age group was a little more low-key - if you are really anal about playing by exact tournament rules, this might not be your thing!
Alex and A.J. checking out the lay of the green.
Group picture of some of the players (typical goofy grins and fun from little boys) - and Ayson (who spent half the game in the club house eating a snack and staying cool)!
All seven players smiling nicely after the tournament.
