Impromptu Date Night...

Late Sunday afternoon, A.J.'s parents had Alex & Ace over for a sleepover.  A.J. and I dropped them off, said our good byes/nights and then headed home.  It hadn't really occurred to us that we might even take an evening out together.  It was Sunday after all - not a traditional date day for us.  But we seized the day.  After a brief conversation we settled on trying out the new Qdoba in town.  I love just going out together - my man and I - for a casual bite to eat.  We're not huge fans of "fancy" nights out - it's just not us - give us low key and laid back.  Anyway, we really liked Qdoba a lot.  A.J.had to compare it to his gold standard of burrito places, Chipotle (though I have to say he has yet to try Freebirds either).  He said it was pretty much too close to call.  Translation: he thought they made a really good burrito.  I've never been to any of the burrito places and was fairly overwhelmed and suffered from burrito-ordering anxiety.  It was akin to walking in to Subway for the first time and not knowing what on earth you should have on your turkey sub.  Foot long? What kind of bread? Banana peppers? Aaagh! What I got was really good though.  Massively huge, but really good.  I ordered a pulled pork burrito with cilantro-lime rice, black beans, and 3-cheese queso.  Did I mention it was massively huge? A.J. had to instruct me on the proper way to eat a burrito of this size and magnitude.  Apparently you need to slowly peel back the foil as you eat - you know, so the inner burrito good stuff doesn't spill out all over your plate - it keeps it all contained I guess.  I made it about 3/4 of a way before surrendering the remainder to my husband! But it was good.

I know what you're thinking, "Wow! What an amazing evening!" But we weren't finished yet.  When we got home we lounged on the back deck in the 96 degree temperatures, listening to the birds and cicadas and crickets and enjoyed a fine Torrontes (I think my new favorite white wine).  No golfers tootling along in their golf carts and a brief break from my precious two mini-men.  Just uninterrupted conversation and peace.  Ah.

You'd think this date night was just too perfect as it was wouldn't you?  But wait! We topped it off by enjoying our own individual Ben & Jerry favorites: Pistachio Pistachio for A, and New York Super Fudge Chunk for me.  There!  Now it was perfect.  The perfect date night!

The end. :)
