So Monday was Columbus Day giving us a nice three-day weekend. We had contemplated doing various things over this extended time off - camping being the main consideration. Unfortuately by the time we began looking at campgrounds, the places we were interested in going to were booked. So we quickly moved on to Plan B. You always need to have a Plan B. That meant the Fire Safety extravaganza, playing with friends, kicking back and enjoying our gorgeous weather, and capping off the weekend with our first trip to
Cabelas. You might not find this much fun, but think of it as the boy equivalent to taking your daughters to the
American Girl store...ahh, now you see what I mean! Lots of previously alive animals throughout the cavernous, testosterone-filled store, a sort of gun range game, lots of boats, camping equipment, hunting, fishing, and a cool aquarium - the ecstasy of it all! They even had toy hunting bows! I heard exclamations of: "Aw to-ol" (Ace translation: Aw cool!) to "Co-ol!" or "Aw Man!" (from Alex). We spent a good two hours there - not nearly enough time to fully satisfy the boys - it was a veritable vacation destination as far as they were concerned. I have to say it really wasn't bad at all. I wasn't too interested in the fishing or hunting stuff, but the camping gear and home furnishings departments were fun to peruse. The best part though was watching the boys go crazy with genuine excitement. What a hoot!
That's a lot of taxidermy there!
The "gun range" - hunting season at Cabelas!
