A Good Read...

Alex is a reader.  When he was only about four months old we read him his first book, Goodnight Moon.  I swear it seemed as though, even at that wee age, he was looking with interest at the pictures.  From that age on we have read to Alex every day.  He always can expect to receive special books for Christmas, Easter and his birthday, and some in between; and at the age of seven he has accumulated quite a library of wonderful books.  Ever since he began learning to read in kindergarten, we've set aside time at bedtime (in addition to reading from us) for him to practice reading.  He's a great reader, but to hear him sometimes talk about it, you'd think it's pure torture for him.  For Christmas, among several other books, I brought him his first Magic Tree House book.  They're fun, adventurous and encourage imagination! After the first chapter he was hooked and couldn't wait to read more.  It didn't take long before he had finished it, so this past week I purchased two more of the Magic Tree House books - it was a thrill to see him so excited to receive books and to hear his reading!
Here he is: reading one of his new Magic Tree House books.  If I had used a tripod, you would have been able to see that he is actually reading in the dark using the light from his headlamp to see.  Proof that he really does like to read afterall! :)

I love that he loves to read! There is a whole world out there ready to be explored in books. I love to read but just don't make the time...hearing about Alex encourages me to set aside time in the evenings to do my own exploring.

Sarah is a reader too. Grandma taught me how to read at 3 and I just couldn't think of a time when books weren't a part of life. We read to her every night until a couple of years ago when she was too "grown up" to have me read to her :) Now, I see the glow of her iPad as she reads...how times change!
