A week or so back I wrote of how we were going to revamp how we celebrate the boys birthday parties. We decided to opt out of the elaborate events that birthday parties have become. Instead, we have chosen to celebrate each of our munchkins with a special event/trip, a very small immediate family party on their actual birthday, and then an extended family double party for the two of them.
We had Alex & Ace's double party this past Saturday. Not only were we blessed with some pretty amazing weather, but the boys had a great day. Gifts were plentiful, but not over-the-top. They reconnected with some cousins they hadn't seen in a while and had a great time playing together for several hours. There was zero stress and it was a delightfully pleasant afternoon. While there is still a little part of me that would like to have the big party with all the boy's friends, the other part of me says that this is good and right.
For an hour or so this morning, the boys and I were over at our city park playing with one of their new birthday presents. We bumped each munchkin up a size in their bikes - it took a while to get adjusted, but now they're back to trying out all their cool bike tricks! :)
