Slaying A Moose...

Remember when you were a kid the awesome feeling of freedom and exhilaration you experienced when you got dismissed early from school just before a holiday break? You came home full of energy like it was the first day of the rest of your life! You had forever ahead of you before school started up again.  Alex's class was dismissed Friday (before Thanksgiving) after his Thanksgiving Feast.  The excitement was almost palpable - this day especially since Grammy & Grandad from MN were coming later in the evening.  He ran in to the kitchen slinging his backback across the floor.  I had to remind him to put it up and to change in to his play clothes.  He ran in to his room and after a few minutes came back wearing this while hauling a spear fashioned from a bamboo stick, a stuffed moose, a tripod and a fleece blanket.  You may remember the outfit from a certain kindergarten production where he received the Native American name, "Howling Wind."  Henceforth, for the duration of this post I shall refer to him as such. :)

Spear raised, Howling Wind is preparing to slay the unsuspecting moose!

Howling Wind has always been a creative and imaginative child.  This particular afternoon he turned part of our back yard in to a sort of Native American campground.  On our deck he made a teepee using our camera's tripod and his fleece penguin blanket.  That's where Ayson stayed - minding the homefront.  Howling Wind, however went on a moose hunt.  We don't have bison or buffalo in these parts of the neighborhood, but we apparently have a large moose population.  I caught some action shots of the big hunt as you can see...

Here stands Howling Wind with his moose.  I suppose he used the meat to make some pemmican or some sort of exotic dish and then used the hide for a winter coat.  It does afterall get mighty chilly down here in these parts!

Ayson keeping things in check at the teepee!

Poor unsuspecting moose being hunted near the golf course. That's a really nice paper bag vest he has there too!
