For the past 10 weeks, A.J. has taken part in the city's first Citizens Fire Academy. He learned about all the various aspects of a fire fighters/first response person's job. The final class was this past Tuesday. A.J. describes his experience beautifully here. This final class was, I think, what he was looking forward to most - when they actually got to practice, at a training facility, putting out a fire in a building. It was quite the experience. When he got home that night, he was exhausted, could barely move, had a slightly queasy stomach and was in need of long hot shower. I'm glad he enjoyed the class so much. After going through this last class, I think we both have new found respect and admiration for the people (and their families) who have chosen this as their profession.
