Building A Snow Leopard...

Early Friday the Councilman headed down to Austin for an overnight conference. The week was long for all of us, with long work hours and a couple of evening meetings. I was wondering if the boys and I would stay sane over the weekend. I was lucky to be able to have the week chock full of play dates, even getting to see some dear friends we hadn't seen in quite a while. Friday, my good friend Malinda and I planned a get together with the boys to visit Build-A-Bear. Alex has always had a thing for stuffed animals - they line the end of his double bed. If ever he had a "lovie" it would be his $4.00 stuffed cat he and I got at Target when he was about nine months old. So I was banking on this little visit being something he would get a kick out of, and told him it was to celebrate his getting ready to begin kindergarten in about two weeks. We were not disappointed. What a fun place for kids. Cason went first so Alex could get an idea of what to expect...

Little Cason putting not 1, but 3 hearts in his little dog!

The gentleman who added the stuffing to the animals was crazy enough to render my otherwise outgoing boy almost shy. I am sure he was thinking, "Mommy please don't leave me alone with this guy!" Here he is with his animal choice, a snow leopard, prior to stuffing...

Alex pushed on the pedal to put the stuffing machine in motion. As you can see in the picture, he focused on the machine and tried to avoid doing anything that would make the man talk! :)

Stuffing complete, the boys headed over to the cleaning station where they made sure their little pets were washed and teeth were brushed. This seemed to be pretty serious business - the boys spent a good deal of time being thorough here! Once they were finished they/we picked out some cool clothes - Alex went the safari route - good taste! Probably one of the most important purchases for both Cason and Alex was, of all things, a little brush to keep their pets well-groomed. It was really rather amusing what a big deal it was getting this little paw-shaped brush.

The big question: does he actually play with his snow leopard (christened Safari by Alex)? Yes, he does! He talks to it (and it has joined his Baby Jaguar when they play Diego), sleeps with it, and takes it in the car sometimes. That's good enough for me!

I'm glad Alex likes his. I don't think Cason has touched his since we brought it home. I should have just gotten him a $5 Thomas at the toy store. Some day I will learn.
