There Was Wind...

Early Saturday morning, Alex and A.J. left for a Cub Scout camp out at Texas Motor Speedway. A wind advisory had gone in to effect for North Texas so we were all prepared for it to be a pretty windy day.  But "pretty windy" turned out to be quite the understatement for us all.  A.J. called two hours after leaving home telling us it was so windy it broke the fiberglass poles on part of their tent, and that there were tents flattened to the ground scattered across the camping area.

Ayson and I didn't want to be left out of any fun, so we planned a "date" of our own for Saturday.  I let him choose the activities for the day as well as a dining spot for later in the evening. It was fun seeing what he wanted to plan. First on the schedule was the polantic [aka "botanic"] gardens followed by the science museum, and then capping it off with the restaurant of his choice...Panda Express.

We had a great time at the botanic gardens where we went for walks on all their short trails and around the various gardens. We were buffered by the trees from most of the wind gusts, so it was actually a nice place to be. Then we moved on to the science museum. When we arrived, we lined up in the atrium to wait for our wristbands. We were standing next to some giant glass doors for our turn when somebody exited the museum.  When they went through the second set of doors, the wind held the door open and then grabbed hold of the interior door and slammed it shut with a loud bang. The door shattered in to a million pieces and sprayed across the floor as the metal handle dropped to the ground.  We were all shocked - you know it's one of those things that you see happening, but your mind is still trying to process it as it's all going down.  Fortunately nobody was hurt. That made for an exciting Saturday in Ayson's book! :)
I guess we'll take the next wind advisory a little more seriously! :)
