Shades on and headphones set for some dvd watching, we were ready for our day of travel.
We wanted this vacation to be relaxing. Not like some of our past vacations where we got caught in a tiring schedule packed with daily excursions. Basically I guess we were longing for a little slow down in our lives and a time to play and let life just pleasantly happen. Happily, we got what we were looking for. With the exception of travelling to Corpus Christi to visit the Texas State Aquarium, we pretty much stayed very local. Both boys quickly adapted to "island life" and it didn't take Alex long to decide that when he (and Ayson - yes, he included Ayson) grew up he was going to get a beach house and a fishing boat of his own, as well as a golf cart to tootle around town in!| Boardwalk to sandcastles, boogie boarding, playing in the water, watching fish & birds... |
| Who knew a simple afternoon out on a jetty could bring out the brotherly love in these two?? |
- even with a 70+ sunscreen you end up getting really tan (and don't forget to put sunscreen on your hair part)
- Virginia's On The Beach & Seafood and Spaghetti Works dining spots are awesome.
- make sure you're aware of the Jetty boat departure schedule (more on that in another post)
- it's easier to find seashells in about a foot of water than right on the beach
- dolphins in the ocean are way more amazing to watch than dolphins in captivity
- if you think you've packed enough snacks & drinks in the cooler, bring more anyway.
- use the Nikon for all photos, leave the Kodak (except for videos)
- when you take the kids in to a souvenir store instead of getting a cute t-shirt, cool shells or something vacation-related, they inevitably want a plain old toy like, in our case toy airplanes
Coming up, bear with me, two more brief vacation posts...
