Nothing says all-American like apple pie, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, baseball, and a cute little newly minted scout standing in front of the American flag!
Alex and A.J. went to Alex's very first scout meeting last night. He was beyond excited to get to wear his uniform shirt and got all goofy & sheepish on me when I hauled him out to the deck, camera in tow, to grab a few pictures before he took off for the meeting. I was surprised to hear how few boys in the school district are involved in the boy scouts. While there were seven boys his age in his den (I think that's the term??), out of four second grade classes at Alex's school alone, he is the only boy who joined. I can't imagine at this age they think that the scout thing is dorky - although he did mention several boys told him they didn't want to do it because they were afraid their cell phones would get stolen or they'd get stabbed! What on earth?? Okay then. I think some of those kids must be watching too much tv!! Anyway, when I looked through his scout handbook I kept thinking to myself, this is so up Alex's alley. Everything from building rockets, woodworking, camping, fishing, first aid, pinewood derby, lots of family-oriented activities, and lots of Daddy time - it's the epitome of my kidlet. I'll take scouts over pee wee football any day of the week!!

He looks so cute in his uniform! I can't wait until Cason is old enough to join the Cub Scouts.
